You may not think that an interior design firm can help your small business with their branding, but that is exactly what they do. Branding takes place as soon as the customer hears your business’ name, visits your company’s website or walks into your store. The interior design firm works on branding from the outside in with designs and aesthetics, but what are the things a business owner can do to brand from the inside out?

Keeping your logo, tagline, business cards, website, letters, brochures, etc. consistent with the company’s colors and the chosen typeface is very important for increasing a company’s brand recognition. Hiring an expert might be necessary to make sure that that the image and the message your business begins sending out is homogenous with your designs and the general feel of your business. This might mean more in upfront costs, but in the long run, your business will be clear in its direction and that can save you lots of money later.

Continually send press releases to the media and regularly post them to your website. If you have a blog, write in it often, get involved in social media and stay in touch with your customers.

Get involved in a charity and participate in local and national industry trade shows or conferences.

Get to know your target audience really well and when you write, write as if you are speaking directly to them. Develop your niche and plug why your company is different and better than the competition.

Keep your website and all social media sites current. If you have to hire a writer to do so, then do so. Make sure the writers understand your branding goals and will keep your brand consistent with all of a customer’s social experiences with your company.

Branding your business is the way to remind customers about who you are and what you do well. Name recognition is instrumental in developing that perceived value of your business. Then, when you have loyal customers, your business’ name will resonate with the actual value your business offers.

What Does Branding Mean to Your Interior Design?

While many companies understand what branding means to their products and their website, they may be falling short where it means the most: their interior design.

If you own a brick and mortar store or run a business in the service industry (spa, hair salon), nothing will speak to your client about the essence of your business more than the moment they open the front door and step inside.

Your brand needs to be carried through the designs of your establishment as an extension of what your business represents. For example, the positive message you promote for your toy store, or the calming experience you promise at your spa or the amazing artistic design your famous for on your cupcakes all need to be a continued part of the customer’s experience when they walk into your establishment.

A design firm who truly understands what your brand is all about will continue this branding experience into and through your store. This is what keeps your customers loyal. It is part of how great branding & interior design work together.

Dialogue Between Designer and Client is the Key to a Successful Design

Planning the design of a space takes a lot of intuition and experience. When you hire an interior designer you expect them to get a feel for the space and the aesthetics of its surroundings all while determining the needs of the client.

The process has many stages beginning with planning and analysis to creating the visual interpretation. There should be many conversations with the client about what their intentions for the space is, their favorite colors, textures and overall style. A designer should also take learn about any cultural elements the client may wish to include, or what, if any, social needs the space has to take into account.

The interior designer then begins using their Graphic Design skills. Providing a sketch or a layout design using a computer software package helps the designer to illustrate their vision. To be able to show a client their perspective on the new space, the interior designer creates a model of the room, complete with all design elements from rugs to sconces, chandeliers, tables, fabrics, tiles, etc.. The customer needs to be able to see the room as the designer has envisioned it. The Graphic Design illustrations are what truly bring these ideas to life and only then can the customer really see what the interior designer has in mind for their new space.
